Region 3 is holding an additional Alpine Officials Clinic and Update on Saturday, Dec. 9, at the Nub’s Nob lodge in Harbor Springs, MI. This clinic is for our coaches, licensed officials, and those who wish to become licensed officials.
We strongly encourage parents to become licensed officials. As you know, we cannot run our races without many volunteers. It is crucial that we have enough licensed officials to run our races. Becoming a licensed official is a fun way to participate and help at races. We are in particular need of Start and Finish Referees, which require either the Jury Advisor or Referee licenses. Once you become licensed, you will be mentored through a race by another licensed race official.
Registration will begin at 8:30 a.m. The Alpine Officials Update will begin at 9:00 and run until around 10:00. Licensed coaches and licensed officials need to attend an Alpine Officials Update once every two years to keep their licenses current.
The Jury Advisor/Referee class will begin once the Alpine Officials Update finishes, which should be around 10:00 a.m. and run approximately two hours, followed by a maximum of 2.5 hours for the respective exams.
If you want to become a licensed official, please go to www.myussa.org where you will register as an alpine official ($60 license fee, which includes background screening as part of USSA’s Safe Sport initiative). Once you have registered as an alpine official, you will need to take the online Competition Official class and pass that exam. Please bring the completed exam sheet with you to the update/clinic. You will need to do all of the above prior to taking a class at the Alpine Officials Clinic.
There is a $5 fee per class taken at our Alpine Officials Clinic, including the Alpine Officials Update and any class for licensing. Please bring cash and pay Cathy Janowiak at the clinic.
